Kolf Player

Cornelis Ploos van Amstel, crayon-manner print, 1758 to 1762 · crayon-manner print

What it is

A single kolf player in a top hat, bent over his club, printed by Cornelis Ploos van Amstel between 1758 and 1762.

Why it matters

Ploos van Amstel made his name with prints in the crayon manner, a method built to fool a collector into seeing chalk.

What to notice

The line breaks up the way chalk does on rough paper, and the figure is barely more than a contour.

The address takes longer than the swing.
