A drawing of figures on the ice with kolf clubs, dated 23 January 1634, now in the Rijksmuseum.
Why it matters
Ter Borch was born in December 1617, so this is a boy’s hand, years before the portraits that made his name.
What to notice
Two players bend over the ball on the right while the rest of the ice carries on without them.
Most of us met the game young, too.
