Luchon, Reine des Pyrénées
Ernest Louis Lessieux, railway poster for the Chemins de fer du Midi, 1910s · lithographic poster
What it is
Ernest Louis Lessieux’s poster for the Orléans and Midi railways, from the 1910s, selling Luchon as the queen of the Pyrenees.
Why it matters
The railway’s pitch was two seasons in one town, and Lessieux split the sheet down the middle to show it.
What to notice
The woman golfer swings inside a frame of irises while the skier comes down the slope past her.
The same mountain holds both games.
