The Posters and the Plans

The Course Surveyed

The railway that built golf tourism, and the doctor who mapped the Old Course.

1900–1930

The game as destination and design. The railways built golf tourism and their posters are its founding advertisements — North Berwick and Cruden Bay, sold by the sheet. And Alister MacKenzie’s 1924 plan of the Old Course, design scripture with every bunker named. Course and club names appear here only under the historical-document doctrine, with logged sign-off. WATCH LIST: the great 1930s railway posters unlock annually from January 2027, and cannot publish early.

Why this school is here

The Haskell — the Rubber Core

Britain & United States · 1898–1930

Coburn Haskell’s wound rubber-core ball (1898) flew farther than anything before it and carried golf into its modern, mass, railway-borne age — Crombie’s Rules, the golfing girl, the travel posters, the surveyed course. Pre-1931 publication clears under the family’s U.S.-seller framework.
